Of course two people can't understand each other. There's so much depth in personality, that in order to get to the pearl, you've got to dive deep through the swine. That's a lot of pressure, and most people either are forced back up or else crushed when trying to understand others. For those that are crushed, their attempts to get others wind up losing themselves, and they find themselves transformed. It's only someone who has lost most of their outer shell, but has been able to retain some dense seed deep within themselves that can dive into others and still remain themselves. But, such a seed would likely germinate, and I can't think of how to phrase the analogy to make it work.
